From the bride:
Kendall and I met in high school in 2003. We shared a Home & Family class together. The first day we were given a meet & greet worksheet to the break the ice with our peers. Several descriptions were listed, and we were to find someone in the class who matched each one. Everyone came up to me to sign their sheet next to “someone who speaks another language.” The problem was that I had no one to sign mine. Kendall came up to me saying, “I can sign your sheet; I speak Jamaican.” We laughed it off and became great friends after that. We remained friends for years, until things changed when we went out for dinner and drinks on his 21st birthday.
We started talking more and going out more, and we started dating officially shortly after that. Kendall proposed on Christmas Eve of 2014 at a family gathering at my aunt’s house. Everyone had opened all their presents and it was almost midnight. My father asked for everyone’s attention and said Ken had something he would like to announce. Then Ken gave a short and sweet speech in front of my entire family, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said “Yes!”
To find the perfect bridal gown I had been to several dress stores before finding the one. I was always waiting to visit this store because they were hosting the trunk show with the newest collection of dresses by a designer that I loved. But the trunk show was in February and my wedding was in July, so I knew I had to be searching for something else beforehand, just in case those didn’t work out. Each store I went to, I saw beautiful dresses, but none of them gave me that feeling like it was the one. I had some possibles in mind, but I anxiously waited for my trunk show. I went to the trunk show to try on my dream dress, but unfortunately it didn’t look right on me. The stylist suggested another dress by the same designer and it was love at first sight! The dress had the French beige color I wanted, with ivory lace on top and gorgeous beading. It also had a detachable skirt that offered the stunning flare I wanted for a wedding in Paris. The skirt also gave me the advantage of two different looks. I had a grand reception in New Orleans, Louisiana after our ceremony in Paris. I was able to remove the skirt for the reception, and it looked like two different dresses.
I always knew I wanted shades of pink, mostly blush, with white and gold for my style and decoration. I always loved this color combination, and it looked so elegant.
My absolute favorite moment of the wedding day was after we said “I do.” The cruise started, pictures were being taken, and everything I had been looking forward to had finally arrived. People were cheering on and congratulating us from afar as we cruised down the Seine River. The view was magical, the food was delicious, and the weather was perfect. It was absolute perfection!
My advice for brides-to-be is: Don’t sweat the small stuff! Some things won’t go as originally planned, and that is to be expected. Remember that this is the big day you’ve been looking forward to. No matter what happens, it will still be the most beautiful day ever. As far as budget goes, several things can be compromised, but pictures and videos are the only memories you keep with you after the day is finished. Be sure to hire the best photography/videography team no matter the cost. It will be worth every penny!
